Lexus Dashboard Warning Lights Guide

January 31st, 2022 by

When you see a new warning light pop up on the dashboard of your Lexus, you might experience a number of emotions, from annoyance that you have to take time out of your busy schedule to service your Lexus, to trepidation that something could be majorly wrong. Luckily, the dashboard lights in your Lexus luxury SUV or car are designed to make it easy to understand what problems require immediate attention, and which can wait until your next scheduled service. Below we’ll discuss the various warning lights in Lexus models like the Lexus ES 350, Lexus GX 460, Lexus LC 500 Convertible, and more.

Lexus Dashboard Lights

Red Lights: Emergencies

Lights that appear red on your dashboard indicate emergencies or other situations that you should remedy as soon as it’s safe to do so. In some cases, you should pull over to the side of the road and call a tow truck to your nearest Lexus service center.

Parking Brake Indicator

If the parking brake indicator illuminates or flashes, either the parking brake is not fully engaged or it’s not fully released. Shift your Lexus into park and out of it again, and the light should turn off: if it does, your car is operating normally.

Brake System Warning Light

If you see this warning, which can be accompanied by a buzzer, stop as soon as it’s safe to do so. Check the brake fluid levels, and if those are adequate, your brake booster system could be malfunctioning. Get your Lexus inspected by a Lexus dealer right away.

Charging System Warning Light

The charging system warning light means that your battery isn’t charging properly. Stop the vehicle safely and contact your Lexus dealer.

SRS Warning Light

The SRS warning light indicates a malfunction in either the seat belt pretensioner system, SRS airbag system, or passenger occupant classification system. Get your vehicle inspected by a Lexus dealer immediately, because this light could indicate a problem leading to an accident.

Open Door Warning Light

You’ll see this light if you’ve neglected closing all of your Lexus’s doors before starting your drive. Check to ensure all the doors and the trunk are closed if you see this light.

Seat Belt Reminders

All of these lights indicate that one of the passengers in the Lexus—either the driver, front passenger, or one of the rear passengers—does not have their seat belt fastened. To turn off this light and the accompanying buzzer, everyone in the car must buckle their seat belts.

Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning

If this light comes on and a buzzer sounds, the oil pressure in your Lexus is too low. Stop the vehicle as soon as it’s safe and contact your Lexus service center.

High Coolant Temperature Warning

If this light comes on, it should be accompanied by a buzzer. Together, these indicate that the engine is overheating, which is a major problem. Immediately stop the vehicle and call your Lexus dealer. Do not continue to drive; you could put yourself and your passengers in danger.

Power Steering System Warning

If this light comes on and a buzzer sounds, your power steering system is malfunctioning. Your car could become much harder to drive. Pull over and stop as soon as it’s safe and have the vehicle inspected immediately.

Yellow Lights: Warnings

If the indicator light on your dashboard is yellow, it indicates a potentially serious problem that needs your attention. You can keep driving with these issues, but you should have your car inspected as soon as you can by a certified Lexus dealer.

Tire Pressure Warning Light

The tire pressure warning light means one or more of your tires has low inflation pressure, which can be caused by a number of factors, from weather to a flat. Adjust the tire inflation back to a normal psi (you should find it on a sticker inside the driver’s door), and the light should turn off within a few minutes. If it stays on or blinks, there’s a malfunction in the warning system itself and it should be checked by your Lexus service center.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

This warning light indicates a malfunction in the electronic throttle control system, electronic engine control system, or electronic automatic transmission control system. Have your Lexus inspected immediately by your Lexus dealer if you see this light.

Low Fuel Level Warning Light

When this light illuminates, you have about 40 miles left in the tank. Visit the nearest gas station to refuel your Lexus.

Headlight Leveling System Warning

This light warns the driver that their Lexus’s automatic headlight leveling system is malfunctioning. This system should automatically adjust the headlight’s angles according to the weight load of the vehicle, making the road safer for everyone.

ABS Warning Light

When the anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning light comes on, it means your Lexus either has a malfunction in the anti-lock braking system or the brake assist system. Either way, this is a serious problem that should be checked at your Lexus service center right away.

Pre-collision System Warning Light

If this light comes on and a buzzer sounds, you should immediately see a Lexus dealer. If you don’t hear a buzzer, the PCS is temporarily unavailable. You should be able to follow the instructions on the display of your Lexus to restore it.
