About the Lexus GS
The first generation Lexus GS came in the form of the Lexus GS 300. It was on a 3.0 liter 2 JZ-GE straight-six, and had 285 N-m of torque. The interiors were plush with leather seats, the center console had walnut wood trim, and the stereo system was state of the art Nakamichi. A high performance sedan followed, with twin turbocharged engines and electronic four wheel steering. It also had improved torque, and was available in automatic transmission, as well as electronic stability control. It is now a bigger car, and more powerful, too. The Lexus GS 400 had a 4.0 L 1 UZ-FE V8 engine and torque was as much as 420 N-m. Something wicked really did come, as it was named Import Car of the Year in 1998 in Motor Trend. From 1998 to the Year 2000, it was in the Best Ten list in Car and Driver magazine. In its IIHS frontal crash testing, it received a "Good" ranking.
For the 2000 model, Xenon high-intensity discharge headlights became a staple with V8 models. It was still something that the six-cylinder models could opt to have. Other exterior additions were clearer taillights and signal lights, and a tint on the headlights. Those on the V8 had an additional 0.3 L displacement, and torque also increased to 441 N-m. It accelerates to almost 100 km/h in under six seconds, so you could really feel the power on this one. This became the Lexus GS 430.
The Lexus GS 300 Sport Design was a limited edition vehicle released only in the United States and Canada. The sport suspension was from the Lexus GS 430; it had wider wheels as well. Inside, you had leather seats and a walnut trim.
The Lexus GS 450h was the hybrid model that had a V6 engine on a 3.5 liter 2GR-FSE and had a CVT or a continuously variable transmission. It had a SULEV or a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle rating, because of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system that it employed. It also goes from 0 to 97 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
The new models had electronic power steering systems. ECB or electronically controlled brake (ECB) brake by wire system and VGRS or variable gear ratio steering were to be seen in the hybrids and those that had V8 engines, as well as adaptive suspension systems. The Lexus GS 460, 430, and 450h had VDIM or Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management.
Safety features offered for the Lexus models were state of the art. Other than an autonomous cruise control system, there is also a radar-based pre-collision system option, and for the Lexus GS 450h, you can even monitor the diligence of the driver with the infrared Driver Monitoring System. Electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability control, brake assist, anti lock braking, multiple airbags, and adaptive headlights were just some of the standard safety features.
Interiors were a sight to behold. Heated seats with three position Lexus Memory System, SmartAccess keyless system with pushbutton start, a touch screen display, and LED lighting cabin.
The Lexus GS 460 had a V8 engine with eight speed automatic transmission. It increased to 460 N-m torque. The side mirrors had turn signals installed in them; the steering wheel had a new design, and the trim and exterior colors had a lot more options available.
The Lexus GS 350 F Sport showed better handling and sportier drive. It now has the Lexus Remote Touch Mouse Controller System, and of course, a touch screen display that is wider than its predecessor.
The most impressive Luxury Sport Sedan available is the Lexus GS 350. The F sport version recently dominated a shootout with Audi A6, Infinti M35, BMW 535. Its power comes from a 3.5 liter V-6 and it will rocket you from zero to 60 miles per hour in only 5.7 seconds.
